CHILES CENTER PROFILE
The mission of the The Chiles Center is to promote and protect the health
of pregnant women, their infants and young children through research, education
and service. To meet our mission, work is focused in five core areas:
1). RESEARCH: We research issues related to
pre-pregnancy, infancy, and early childhood (0 to five years). Findings are
used to determine the most effective programs, strategies, and systems for
promoting the health of mothers and babies.
2). MATERNAL and CHILD HEALTH INFORMATION:
Using proven methods, we help to identify, collect, link and analyze data to
assess and report on the health status and quality of health care services
given to mothers and infants on the community, state, regional and national
levels.
3). PUBLIC POLICY/PUBLIC EDUCATION: Research
findings are used to educate and influence policy makers, students, maternal
and infant health providers, and the general public.
4). LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT, EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
Relevant, evidence-based maternal-infant educational programs are provided to
health care professionals and policymakers, which fosters excellence in
practice and leadership.
5). CONSULTATION AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE:
Assistance is provided to private and public concerns as they develop,
implement and evaluate maternal and infant health programs, policies and
delivery systems.
